International No Diet Day and cheat day – what do they mean and why do we celebrate them?

In order to achieve our dream, slim figure, most of us go on a strict diet, depriving ourselves of the pleasure of eating many of our favorite products and dishes. Therefore, celebrating the International Day Without a Diet or cheat day should consist of unlimited delicacies and abandoning restrictions in the daily diet. This is not entirely true. So how to celebrate No Diet Day and what to eat then?

What is a diet?

Dieting has been gaining popularity for some time now. By submitting to certain dietary requirements, we want to achieve an attractive, slim appearance, which is often fueled by the image of the world flowing from the media. However, it is important to maintain common sense and not become obsessed with your body. There are many types of diets, and their goal does not necessarily have to be to lose unnecessary kilograms, but, for example, to cleanse the body or enter a regular mode of eating healthy, nutritious meals. It is therefore misleading to associate the word diet only with weight loss, because this concept simply means a way of eating. The most popular diets include Mediterranean, DASH, Dukan or Copenhagen. Each of them focuses on consuming specific products, e.g. high-protein, while eliminating others.

What does it mean? cheat day?

Term cheat day comes from the English language and literally means "cheat day". What is its purpose? You have to choose one day a week or a month when you abandon the restrictions of your diet and eat everything you want. You do it consciously and in full agreement with yourself, so as not to fall into a sense of guilt.

According to most dietitians, such a one-day break from the requirements of the diet does not negatively affect the process of losing weight, and in fact has a beneficial effect. It is mainly about the psychological aspect related to the reduction of stress caused by adhering to strict diet rules, as well as greater motivation for the following days. Thanks to this procedure, the diet becomes more balanced and easier to follow over a longer period of time.

What is the purpose of International No Diet Day?

This day is celebrated on May 6 and has a similar meaning to cheat day, so it is a one-day departure from the diet. Celebrating the International Day Without a Diet is not about gorging on unhealthy food – chips, sweets or fast food. It is more about giving yourself a culinary pleasure and preparing your favorite dish or reaching for products that go beyond the restrictive framework of the daily menu – of course, while maintaining reasonable limits.

In addition, the International Day Without a Diet primarily serves to encourage acceptance of oneself and one's body regardless of the kilograms. So let's not succumb to the pressure of the media, advertisements or glossy magazines, which show the ideal world of people with an attractive, slim appearance. On the other hand, the Day Without a Diet aims to promote healthy habits - regular physical activity and proper nutrition. This is the best way to solve many health problems, and at the same time achieve a slim figure and well-being every day.
