Apparently, the ancient Romans already made spherical "buns" resembling donuts from yeast dough. The dough was similar to bread leaven, and the filling was bacon! Such fatty pastries were later eaten in Poland at the end of the carnival. This is how Fat Thursday was born. Over time, the dry nature of pastries was replaced by fluffy yeast cakes filled with sweet jam filling.
Today, donuts are known almost all over the globe, although they have different regional recipes and different shapes. The American donut has a hole in the middle, the Italian bomboloni is stuffed from the top, the Hungarian farsangi fánk has no filling and is served side by side, the Turkish lokma is sweet balls with honey, and the German krapfen is fried very briefly, which makes them less greasy.
And we at Jacek Placek celebrate frying these delicious, fluffy cookies only once a year, traditionally icing them and stuffing them with marmalade or pudding.
We use only natural ingredients for our donut.
The filling is chocolate pudding.
